ABOUT ME
Gaya Maria Chatterjee (she/her) is a New York City–based scenic designer and multidisciplinary artist with a passion for creating immersive, emotionally resonant visual worlds. She holds a BFA in Theatre from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, along with a minor in Art History from the College of Arts and Sciences.
With a deep-rooted love for storytelling and a curiosity for the many directions scenography can take, Gaya approaches each project with a thoughtful, holistic mindset. She enjoys building rich visual landscapes through extensive research drawing from imagery, music, architecture, history, and culture to inform her work.
Gaya has contributed to projects at venues such as St. Ann’s Warehouse, The Atlantic Theater, The Shed, and The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Since 2023, Gaya has been an Adjunct Professor at NYU Tisch Drama, where she shares her knowledge and enthusiasm with emerging artists.
P&D Affinity Group
Gaya is a founding member of the Production & Design Affinity Group within Tisch Drama at New York University. The group was re-stablished in the Summer of 2020 in response to the BLM movement and fight for racial equality across the United States.
The P&D Affinity group is dedicated to creating a safe space where BIPOC artists are empowered, encouraged and celebrated, while engaging in fruitful conversations amongst faculty about racial inequities in our communities.
